GMP C6 Public Planting Participation at Laguna City

As part of the Greening Master Plan for Hong Kong, public planting events are organized for the benefit of local communities and stakeholders. This planting event was held at Laguna City in Kwun Tong, Kowloon on 26 May 2010. GMP works included removing a disused road and planting it with colorful shrubs and trees. This has made a great difference to a grey and inhospitable environment. The planting works are a designated Focal Point in the GMP and are situated in the midst of a large high rise residential development. Before and after photos are attached.

In what was the largest public planting participation to date for the GMP, 110 children and their teachers attended for both morning and afternoon planting sessions. Members of the Hong Kong Government also attended. Everyone involved had fun and even learned about plants and the environment from ACLA horticultural staff, who spent their day planting with the children.  Special comments were made by the public on the great positive difference the GMP had made to their local environment. Similar public planting events are planned for several nearby areas in the near future.
